My Approach - Your sessions
Relational - Together but Always for You
Elsewhere on my website, I’ve introduced my relational style but to recap: I do not view therapy as merely a process, it’s a relationship. I aim to meet you as me - a real and grounded human being, not a distant professional. You’ll always know where you stand with me: I’m consistent, honest, and present. I believe this approach helps you to see me as predictable which, in turn and with time, will allow for trust, safety, and feeling truly understood so that you can just be yourself in our sessions. That is where the “magic” of therapy happens.
Integrative – Adapting to You
Life is complex, and healing isn’t one-size-fits-all so I tailor your therapy to fit you. As a BACP registered Integrative Psychotherapist, I draw from multiple evidence-based approaches to meet your unique needs, story, and goals. This means that our sessions are not confined to one method, we stay curious and responsive to what actually helps. This approach gives us the freedom to meet each part of you with compassion, clarity, and care.
At the heart of my work are three core approaches: Humanistic/Person-Centred, Relational-Psychodynamics, and Existentialism; I integrate CBT across all approaches. With years of experience of supporting people from all walks of life, and working in various psychologically-aligned settings, I have picked up a fair few additional theories and skills along the way. You’ll find more information on each below - not textbook definitions, but how I personally understand and use them in our sessions together.

I believe you are the expert on your own life. Humanistic, person-centred therapy places your experience, your voice, and your values at the heart of our work. I offer a warm, non-judgemental space where you’re met with empathy, honesty, and deep respect. With time, this kind of connection can support healing, growth, and a return to living more authentically - on your terms.

Our earliest relationships shape how we see ourselves and how we relate to others. In this approach, we gently explore how your past experiences may be influencing your present, especially in relationships, self-worth, and emotional responses. Therapy itself becomes a safe relationship where patterns can be understood and new, healthier ways of being can take shape. Together, we bring unconscious patterns into awareness and create space for change.

Existential therapy invites us to explore deeper questions about meaning, identity, freedom, and choice. It’s not about having answers, but about understanding what matters to you and how you want to live in light of life’s uncertainties. I use this approach to help you reconnect with your values, make sense of your experiences, and shape a life that feels real, grounded, and meaningful.

Sometimes, we get caught in loops of worry, shame, or harsh self-talk. These approaches help us understand how thoughts, emotions, and behaviours interact and how we can gently shift them. Together, we can loosen unhelpful patterns, build emotional resilience, and move toward self-compassion. I use CBT to explore thinking habits, values and beliefs; ACT to support values-led action, challenge fixed thinking and narratives, and encourage psychological flexibility; and CFT to build a more caring relationship with yourself.

Having worked in various psychological roles, with people of all ages and from all walks of life, I am trained in various other psychological and therapeutic theories, approaches, and skills. You can find information on how I may integrate them into our sessions below. Again, not textbook definitions but how I personally understand and integrate them.

I am a Trauma Recovery Model Practitioner so I bring specialised trauma training. I have also worked in specialist psychological trauma services as a trauma therapist so I bring experience. More importantly, I bring care and respect for your story.
Trauma impacts the mind, body, and sense of self. I work from a trauma-informed stance, meaning I prioritise safety, pacing, and trust. We’ll take things at a speed that feels manageable for you, with grounding and emotional regulation always at the core. The ways you’ve coped make sense, I promise, but these coping methods may no longer serve you. That is normal. Healing from trauma is possible - and we do it gently, together.

I am a certified SFBT Practitioner. This is a hopeful, strengths-based approach that focuses on your preferred future and what’s already working in your life. We’ll hold space for your struggles, but also pay attention to your skills, values, and signs of change. I use SFBT to support movement, momentum, and motivation when things feel stuck, without rushing your process.

Mindfulness helps us respond to life with awareness rather than reactivity. It’s about noticing your thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations with curiosity and compassion. I use mindfulness in a grounded, accessible way - never as a “quick fix,” but as a skill that can support presence, emotional regulation, and calm. It’s something I practice in my own life, and something we can explore together if it feels helpful to you.

I have an MSc in Psychology so I bring in some clinical understanding into my therapeutic practice. Sometimes, understanding why we think, feel, or act a certain way can bring powerful relief. I use psychological education gently and collaboratively, to help you make sense of your inner world. Whether it’s about attachment, trauma, the nervous system, or thinking patterns, I share clinical psychological theory in a way that’s digestible and human. It’s about reducing shame, building self-compassion, and increasing choice.

Sometimes words just do not cut it. Our first way of communicating, other than crying, was through touch. If you are willing, then we may use some creative and arts based work to unlock, explore, or integrate what’s going on for you. Creativity can be a powerful experience and tool in therapy.

Whether we are re-authoring past events or exploring future endeavors, our imagination can reach beyond the limitations of the therapy room and your life. Your brain is a weird but amazing biological machine, it often cannot distinguish between imagination and reality… and we can utilise that to bring about real emotional relief and change into your life!
In trauma work, I may invite you to utilise Imaginary Rescripting, an evidence based practice from Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT).

Shame often tells us there’s something wrong with us. Very infrequently, shame might tell us something we did - or did not do - was wrong but for the majority of the time, shame is not a truth, it’s a created response. In therapy, I hold shame gently and compassionately, helping you understand where it came from and how to begin softening it. Together, we create a space where all parts of you are welcome and none need to hide.

Therapy should be a place where you feel fully seen, safe, and respected. I work with a strong commitment to anti-discriminatory practice, actively challenging systems and assumptions that harm. I continually reflect on my own privilege and biases and strive to create a space that affirms your full identity, especially if you’ve ever felt silenced or judged elsewhere. Here, your voice matters; you can come however you are, without assumptions or expectation.
